A symbol of resilience and a model for musicians and music lovers alike, concert pianist, teacher, and cultural organizer Giovanni Nesi is known for his captivating pianism, described by Dino Villatico in La Repubblica as «a gesture that aspires to song, with lightness» and that «combines intellectual pleasure and admiration».

His concert career as a soloist and chamber musician has led him to perform at some of Italy’s most prestigious festivals and theaters, including the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Amici della Musica di Firenze, the Festival dei Due Mondi di Spoleto, the Ravello Festival, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, and the Società dei Concerti di Milano. Abroad, he has appeared in iconic venues such as the Mozarteum in Salzburg, St Martin-in-the-Fields in London, the Teatro Solís in Montevideo, and the Yamaha Concert Hall in Vienna, winning over audiences and critics across Europe and the Americas. His interpretations, praised for their intensity and originality, range from Bach to Chopin, Debussy, and Domenico Zipoli, whose complete Suites and Partitas he performed and recorded for the first time on a modern piano (Heritage, 2015). This album, acclaimed by the international press (Gramophone, Limelight, Music Web International, BBC, Pizzicato, Maestro, etc.), consolidated his reputation as a pioneer. Equally significant is his recording for Tactus (2014) of the Suite for Piano and Strings and the Bagatelles by Mario Pilati, a world premiere recording praised by critics in Classic Voice, Musica, Rai Radio3, and others.

He is facing focal dystonia, a condition that limits the use of his right hand. This has not halted his inexhaustible creativity: Nesi performs worldwide with his left hand alone, interpreting celebrated works from the repertoire, new transcriptions of his own, and premieres written for him. His albums “J.S. Bach: Works for Piano Left Hand” (Heritage) and “Original and Transcribed Piano Music for the Left Hand” (Da Vinci Classics) have received unanimous acclaim, highlighting his ability to transform challenges into artistic opportunities. He collaborates with the Fresco Parkinson Institute to inspire those facing similar conditions.

Born in Florence in 1986, a student of Maria Tipo and Andrea Lucchesini, Giovanni Nesi has received guidance from many distinguished musicians, including Elisso Virsaladze, Bruno Canino, Joaquín Soriano, Hüseyin Sermet, and Jacques Rouvier. His dedication to excellence is reflected in the numerous prizes he has won in national and international competitions, as well as awards granted in recognition of his artistic merits, such as the Maggio del Pianoforte in Naples, the Clef du Mois from ResMusica, the Coup de Cœur, the William Walton Prize, and the Rudolf Serkin Award.

Nesi is also a passionate teacher, Head of the Piano Department at the Livorno Conservatory, and a frequent guest for masterclasses in Italy, Mexico, and the United States. His students have received recognition in numerous competitions, and he is often invited to serve as a juror in Italy, the United States, and Hungary. As a communicator, he created and hosted MusicaEterna on the television network 7Gold, founded and directs festivals such as the Centro Pecci Piano Festival and Il Sabato del Mascagni, and is active as a lecturer.
